Earth Rotation Information System: Development of a virtual Earth rotation system for geodetic and geoscience applications (ERIS)
The main task of this project is the elaboration of a 'virtual Earth rotation system' based on the data information system of the IERS. The system is supposed to provide measurement data, modelling programs as well as graphical and analysis elements. In this way, necessary standardisations and interface definitions can be provided for the research unit. ERIS will be developed as a complex and modular software package, reflecting the accepted status of modelling in Earth rotation research. It should be understood as a central network-oriented communication structure as well as a scientific tool. The search for the main processes which cause EOP variations shall be facilitated through qualitative illustrations and investigations.
